My Brilliant Birthday Month – Part 3

Well, we’ve finally come to the final post of My Brilliant Birthday Month (See Part 1 and Part 2).  I really drew this one out, didn’t I?  Didn’t mean to, but between Parts 2 and 3 there were a few projects that needed my attention, such as an article for a local magazine and getting all that tax info together as the deadline approaches (ouch!).  Sooooo, as promised, it’s time to wind things up with a roundup of my Birthday Group’s favorite skin care products we’ve given each other over the years.

One of Earline's Great Little Doodles!

For more years than I can remember (hmmm, I think we may have actually been young when this all started.), Earline, Linda and I have met to celebrate birthdays and special occasions over lunch.  These lunches typically run about three hours, Earline typically orders Chicken Walnut Salad, and we always consume copious amounts of Prosecco.  Of course, they also always include the exchange of presents large and small and what Earline calls “little doodles,” which are often the most fun of all.

We also meet frequently for afternoon tea, often at each other’s homes, which, come to think of it, also includes Earline’s little doodles and copious amounts of Prosecco.  Are you sensing a pattern here?

As I said, over the years we’ve given each other lots of skin care and beauty presents, so I thought it might be fun to share with you which of these have gotten the Birthday Group’s “Good Housekeeping Highest Seal of Approval.”

From Carol Cassara
Let me start by saying that when it comes to our skin types, we are sort of like Goldilocks’ Three Bears.  We range from Normal (Linda) to Sensitive (moi) to Super Sensitive (Earline).  In effect, Earline is our canary in the makeup mine shaft.  If it doesn’t irritate her skin, it’s a winner.

Here, in no particular order, are our top three (actually four, you’ll see why) choices.

No doubt you know about Micellar Water, which I’ve talked about before.  It’s a great way to remove your makeup and cleanse your face all in one step.  Almost every beauty company has its own version and prices vary accordingly.  But these little towlettes from Garnier, which you can buy at your local drugstore, work beautifully, are perfect for traveling and are as easy on your pocketbook as they are on your skin.  Earline gives them two thumbs up!!

We also love Sephora’s Cleansing Oil, which contains super gentle cottonseed oil.  I use it full strength to remove eye makeup and mix a tiny bit in with my regular cleansing lotion during the winter for an extra boost of moisture.  If your skin gets dry in the winter, you can use it full strength to cleanse your face and rinse it with water.  Believe it or not, I still have slightly oily skin at my age, so I prefer to mix it with my cleansing lotion.

I do, however, use it full strength on my hands, feet, décolletage and back of the neck every night year round.  I love that it absorbs quickly.  The skin on the back of your neck needs attention, too, ladies, especially if you wear your hair short.  It can show age as quickly as the front of your neck.  It’s also an erogenous zone that we often forget about, so pamper it.  When’s the last time a man kissed you on the back of your neck?  Trust me, it can send little excited shivers down your spine!  Oo là là!

Caudalie’s Grape Water face spray is the best stuff!!  We may still be waiting for spring to make up her mind whether or not to make an appearance, but we know that summer is waiting in the wings.  This is such a great way to cool and refresh your face on a hot summer’s day or during a long flight when everything starts to feel dry.  Not only does it cool and refresh, but it moisturizes your skin.  You can use it before or after applying your makeup and anytime during the day when you need a quick spritz to put your best face forward.  We love this!

And finally, we love any bath and body product from Philosophy, especially Amazing Grace, which has the most heavenly scent.

The next time you get together with your girlfriends for lunch or dinner, ask about their favorite makeup and beauty products.  You can learn a lot from your friends, especially after copious amounts of Prosecco.

    Dearest Marie-Thérèse,
You made me laugh, you being that petite Française and sipping on this sexy Italian cousin of Champagne... a.k.a. Prosecco!
Haha, we lived and worked right in the Prosecco area... and we always keep a bottle here at home for special occasions with friends. It is the perfect light toast.
Sending you hugs from a still cool Georgia. When does Spring really stay?!
